About Gloria
Â
Gloria was born in the Bahamas, a nation with 50% Haitians, to Haitian parents. She is fluent in both Haitian Creole, her first language, and English.  In 2004-2005 Gloria took several courses at Fontbonne University in St Louis, Missouri, to learn how to teach her son, who was born deaf, how to speak clearly, read, and understand both the written and spoken language of English. Several years into doing ministry in Haiti, Gloria’s friends, missionaries, and people adopting from Haiti asked her to teach them creole. After trying different programs which did not lead to lasting results, Gloria put together her own curriculum and practiced on over 200 individuals, one-on-one via Skype, Google Hangouts, and FaceTime. Soon multiple churches and organizations noted the success of the program and had their missionaries contact Gloria for creole lessons. She soon developed the Learn Haitian Creole with Gloria program whereby she implemented all that she had learned in her speech and hearing courses to provide a stronger foundation and to help people become more confident and fluent in their communication skills.
Since then more people serving and adopting from Haiti have used her books, Learn Haitian Creole with Gloria Level I and Learn Haitian Creole with Gloria Level II and her video program available on Vimeo. Her students have developed better creole skills and deeper relationships with Haitians thus having a lasting effect in the community they serve and with their adopted child.Â
